TXAPA has been very busy for the first part of 2017. Partners in Quality meetings with TxDOT have been a very important part of association business. The goal for 2017 is to conduct a minimum of 30 PIQ meetings throughout the state. To date there have been six completed. These districts include: Atlanta, Austin, Bryan, Lufkin, Paris and San Antonio. There are four upcoming PIQ meetings scheduled with more to come.
TXAPA committees have been busy working for the membership. The following committees met in February:
Aggregate, Soils and Base Committee met along with TxDOT on Item 302 Aggregates for Surface Treatments. The committee will be working closely with TxDOT on all specifications and test procedures throughout 2017.
Associate Member Advisory Committee met at the association office in February and is working on an Associate Member Showcase for sometime in May or June. They are also working on having an Associate Member page on the website which will list all associate members by category.
Environmental, Health & Safety committee met and is currently working with other committees to promote more safety and environmental issues. This committee will be very active with the Training and Education Committee.
Marketing and Membership Committee Services met in College Station and working diligently to finalize the Asphalt Pavement User Guide. This will be available to members this year and also available on the website when completed.
TXAPA was also present at the Texas Public Works Short Course in Killeen, Texas. Larry Welch and Chuck Fuller attend these shows, make presentations and set up a trade show booth. They also attended the School for County Commissioners Court that was held in Austin, Texas and the Texas Association of County Engineers and Road Administrators in Kerrville, Texas.
