WHAT'S GOING ON
The Texas Asphalt Pavement Association has always been dedicated to the development and construction of quality paving projects in Texas. The goal of the partners in quality was that by working together both the owner and contractor could feel as though they were one team working to build a quality project. Over the coming fall and winter months, the partners in quality will be active across the state trying to visit two locations per month.

Designing the right pavement for the job got easier thanks to PaveXpress, a free Web-based pavement design scoping tool for roadway and parking lot pavements. PaveXpress - www.pavexpressdesign.com - creates technically sound pavement structural designs for flexible and rigid pavements based on widely accepted industry standards from the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO).

The National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) has received the prestigious 2013 NOVA Award from the Construction Innovation Forum (CIF) for its work to speed the deployment and uptake of warm-mix asphalt.

"NAPA is proud to accept this award on behalf of the asphalt pavement industry, warm-mix technology developers, and our partners at the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and state departments of transportation nationwide. The success of warm mix is due to cooperation and a willingness to innovate from road owners and builders alike," said NAPA President Mike Acott.

IN THE WORKS
The latest NAPA/FHWA survey of asphalt producers' use of recycled materials and warm-mix asphalt finds that almost a third of all asphalt produced during the 2013 construction season was produced using warm-mix asphalt technologies.

To have a successful QC/QA program we need to recognize and understand how the system works. When QC/QA test results are used in the acceptance decision, testing disputes arising between TxDOT, or its designated agents, and the contractor shall be resolved in a reliable, unbiased manner by referee testing or evaluation performed by the Construction Division, Materials & Pavements Section (CST/M&P) central laboratory.

The Hot Mix Asphalt Center (HMAC) has always had a policy of "pre-payment" for all asphalt and soils classes. At this time, there are waiting lists for all classes and therefore we cannot have anyone scheduled in a class that has not prepaid. The HMAC accepts all major credit cards as payment.
