I am a Building Maintenance Engineer and am working towards becoming a Plumber. I am also scheduled to certify with Pellerin for maintenance and repair of the laundry equipment at my hospital.
How has TAHFM/ASHE contributed to your career?
It has really helped in my education. My department does a lot of training with TAHFM materials. Some recent ones include life safety training, emergency response, and infection control.
What is your background in the field of healthcare facilities?
I have worked in healthcare for 6 years. The first 18 months of that were in the Environmental Services department. Then I was promoted to the Engineering Department. In addition to normal repairs, I am responsible for inspections & repair of the Eyewash Stations, Central Utility Plant logs, preventative checks and services on the Medical Air & Vacuum Systems. I also help with the execution of the Fire Drill training.
Tell us something about yourself.
My wife and I have 7 children, 53 grandkids, and 16 great grandkids. That's a total of 76 people to shop for at Christmas. We put up 3 Christmas trees every year to have enough room for all the presents.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I really like the people. They are very kind, and so appreciative when I am able to help them out. I also like the challenges of the job. It's different everyday. I never get bored.
What are your plans for future growth?
Plumbing Apprentice, Pellerin mechanic, and promotion to Journeyman Maintenance Mechanic
