Murfreesboro Electric Department (MED) is seeking candidates for the position of General Manager due to the current General Manager’s impending retirement in 2017. Murfreesboro is one of the fastest growing cities in the nation and MED currently serves approximately 60,000 customers. The American Public Power Association has recognized Murfreesboro Electric with the prestigious Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) Award, which recognizes utilities that demonstrate high proficiency in reliability, safety, work force development and system improvement.
MED seeks a General Manager with the skills to provide leadership to drive safety, operational strategies, vision, culture, growth, development, motivation, compliance, values, service and accountability while striving for the highest levels of performance throughout the organization.
The General Manager will provide leadership of 90 employees with 7 Direct Reports in Finance, Operations, Engineering, Safety, Information Technology, Marketing, Human Resources and will oversee a budget estimated at $180M. MED is municipally owned and is part of the TN Valley Authority (TVA). The General Manager reports directly to a 5 member Power Board.
Qualified candidates must have a bachelor’s degree, with higher education preferred and a minimum of ten years of upper-management experience. Working knowledge of the TVA power supply and transmission system is preferred. Candidates must also possess excellent verbal and written communications skills plus the ability to effectively communicate and build strong relations with Employees, The Power Board, City Administration and the Community.
