TMRA Teacher Workshops – Building on the Past for a Better Future
By Francye Hutchins, Texas Mining and Reclamation Association
Looking back at 2018 — it was an excellent year for TMRA’s Teacher Workshops. We had over 100 teachers attend 5 workshops. And none of these workshops would be possible without the support and help of TMRA members. Especially those mining sites that hosted tours and provided experts to share with the attendees.
In June, Sabine Mining Company hosted our first coal workshop and provided tours for a collaborative effort with ESC Region 8 teachers. The last week in June was the Industrial Minerals workshop based out of Round Rock. The teachers visited the Bureau of Economic Geology and toured the Lhoist quarry between Burnet and Marble Falls. Second week in July was another coal workshop where we toured Keiwit’s Walnut Creek Mine near Bremond. The middle week of July was our Uranium workshop held in Corpus Christi. We toured EFR’s Alta Mesa operations.
Here’s what two teachers had to say about our workshops:
If you know a teacher that would benefit from attending one of our 5-day workshops send them this link to TMRA’s Teacher Workshop webpage TMRA Teacher Workshops. It has all the information and the online application for them to fill out. Our workshops are free to teachers including their hotel room and meals.
In 2019 TMRA will have 6 workshops and those workshops are filling up quickly!
