Executive Director's Message: Safety: Key to Success
“Safety: Key to Success” is our eNewsletter theme for May but, as we all know, is and has been a key theme for our industries for as far back as I can remember. So, let’s say, AT LEAST since the mid-1970’s. For many of our companies, this commitment to safety goes back much farther. The COVID-19 pandemic has heightened our awareness and commitment to taking safety seriously, emphasizing that personal safety from disease is critical to our health and the health of those where we work and others with whom we interact.
A key to Safety Success, whether we’re considering disease or worker safety, with how we operate at our mining and related facilities and operations, comes back to individual actions. For sure our companies have strong policies for safety but, bottom line, it all comes down to us. How important is it to us to care about ourselves and others, to follow corporate polices, to care about operations, equipment and, for sure, the health and safety of those with whom we work?
I’m so very proud to have and to have had the opportunity to work with and for all of you in our industries because, across the board, I’m able to say, without equivocation, that these folks, these companies, these industries care about health and safety. I have never visited or seen TMRA Member operations and leadership that did not talk the talk AND walk the walk on protecting and enhancing health and safety.
As you go forward in 2020 and beyond, I hope you’ll keep this health and safety theme and commitment in mind, considering the words and thoughts included in this eNewsletter from our Treasurer, Steve Eckert, and those of our Safety Committee Co-Chairs, Wade Johnston and Steve Schauwecker, and knowing that how you value health and safety every day does make a difference.
TMRA is here to support your health and safety initiatives and commitment. Never hesitate to let us know how we can assist.
Thanks, and stay safe and well!
Ches Blevins,
TMRA Executive Director
