Thank you for all you are doing on the front lines of the COVID-19 response! Tammy Clements Tammy has done an exemplary job dealing with this pandemic. She has worked many hours to notify members of our community of their test results and educate the public on quarantining and social distance protocols. She has developed great working relationships with the state epidemiologist and implemented policy and procedures within our organization weeks ahead of the state. She is a wealth of knowledge and a huge asset to HRMC. Learn more about the many amazing TONL Heroes at https://www.texasnurse.org/page/heroes. Around springtime each year, several prestigious nursing organizations including the Academy of Nursing Education (ANE) of the National League for Nursing (NLN), American Academy of Nursing (AAN), American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM), American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL), and Academy of Emergency Nurses (AEN) of the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) publicize the names of outstanding practitioners, executives, researchers, and scholars who have been designated as Fellows. These celebratory events that recognize these outstanding nurses may have been dampened by the COVID-19 pandemic this year, but Spurlock (2020) challenges us to continue the pursuit of excellence.

As a new CNO, my first nine months have seen crisis after crisis. In my first seven days on the job, we went through a surprise inspection from our accrediting body, which was immediately followed by a roof fire that led to millions in damages and patient evacuations. Thirty days into my role, I had to lead my staff through a mass shooting incident that resulted in 7 deaths and 25 injured between two cities. Within six months of taking the role, I am leading through a global pandemic that has affected every aspect of our daily lives. I am now nine months into the role, attentively awaiting my next challenge.
