ABOUT
The American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) is the national professional organization of the more than 10,000 nurse leaders who manage and provide patient care across the continuum. AONL provides leadership development, advocates for patients and nurses, and creates an inclusive community for nurses at every stage of leadership. AONL is an affiliate of the American Hospital Association.
By Dr. Christi Nguyen Over the past year, NCONL (North Central Organization for Nurse Leaders) has accomplished a lot. Our membership increased by 70 new members. We added two appointed positions on the Board to increase diversity by including non-acute care nurse leaders. We created committees to increase engagement for members who wanted to serve on committees. Our Education Committee was very successful in adding CNE offerings to our educational sessions. With Zoom, we were able to significantly increase attendance at our monthly meetings. NCONL also partnered with NTONL to provide joint meetings, and we extended our educational sessions for free to all TONL members. NCONL was also a proud Patron Sponsor for the DFW Great 100 Nurses. SCTONL has been very active despite the challenges of the COVID pandemic. The membership committee has done great work, which is evident by a significant increase in membership. Early last year, we had a vacancy for an education committee chair that was filled by a greatly committed member, Carmina Riding.
This letter is to highlight the extraordinary work accomplished by Carmina, who in short order was able to expand the work of the education committee, strengthening the partnership with Walden University through the offering of webinar classes to all our members on a variety of leadership topics. In addition, Carmina was able to present the SCTONL board with two good options through which our members can sign up for Nurse Executive Certification Exam reviews. Carmina’s commitment to the growth of our local leadership is unmatched, and I am pleased to have her lead our education committee. I am honored to work alongside such an amazing leader who truly exemplifies the values of nursing as a profession at a regional level.
