TIA honored U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO) and U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-IL) for their exceptional contributions to the third-party logistics (3PL) industry during the 2018 TIA 3PL Policy Forum, held June 5-6, 2018 in Washington, D.C.
Sen. Blunt and Rep. Davis have been long time champions for transportation issues on Capitol Hill. Most recently, they have demonstrated their commitment to the 3PL industry by serving as lead sponsors of a bill that would create a National Hiring Standard for motor carriers.
The National Hiring Standard plays an important role toward improving safety within the transportation industry, specifically by establishing a national standard for hiring motor carriers. If enacted, a hiring entity would be required to:
Currently, there is no standard or duty of care an entity must take when hiring a carrier. This is a huge step towards removing unsafe carriers from the highways and will remove liability traps plaguing the 3PL industry.
“TIA applauds Sen. Blunt and Rep. Davis for their support of the National Hiring Standard and working diligently to ensure it reaches the President’s desk for his signature,” said TIA President and CEO Robert Voltmann.
Voltmann added, “The $185.7 billion 3PL industry touches the lives of everyone in one way or another. TIA is fortunate to have strong advocates in Washington, D.C. like Sen. Blunt and Rep. Davis. We look forward to working with them in the future on issues affecting transportation and 3PLs.”
