The California State Assembly is currently considering a bill that would have major impacts on every 3PL who books drayage at a California port using independent owner-operator port truckers. Under this new bill, the California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement would post on its website the essential information of all port drayage motor carriers who have any unresolved court or Department of Labor judgments related to a broad variety of wage-and-hour concerns.
Last week, Illinois State Rep. Lawrence Walsh, Jr. (D-86), whose district includes parts of Channahon, Elwood, Joliet, Ingalls Park, Preston Heights, and Rockdale, introduced House Bill 4915, which would create a logistics center impact fee. This fee would be an annual fee imposed on the owner of each logistics center located in the State of Illinois. The impact fee will vary depending on how many trucks on average utilize the logistics center.
The Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) landmark final rule on the Sanitary Transportation of Human and Animal Food is approaching its final implementation date for 3PLs on April 6, 2018. This implementation date is for the remaining small businesses that were not included in the initial implementation date of April 6, 2017.
Transport Canada, which promotes safety in the transportation marketplace, is proposing to introduce a new requirement for businesses involved in the transport of dangerous goods to register and provide information on their dangerous goods activities.This new requirement would be a client identification database that will identify where the transportation of dangerous goods sites are located.
