Estes Express Lines is delivering some of its most important freight yet in the first weeks of 2019. Twenty checks totaling $1 million are now making their way through Estes terminals across the country to national charitable organizations, and Estes employees were able to handpick the recipients. If you have news you would like to share with other TIA members, send it to us, and we'll place it in the next issue of Logistics Weekly. Meetings

Independent contractor relationships are critically important to 3PLs of all sizes and specializations, so TIA closely monitors all regulatory developments related to this issue. TIA works to maintain up-to-date frameworks and guidance on labor issues on the Members Only side of the TIA website. TIA will also report on any efforts by Congress or the Department of Labor to make changes to the independent contractor tests laid out by the National Labor Relations Act (which governs activities related to union organization) and the Fair Labor Standards Act (which regulates employment relationships for contractors and employees, as well as minimum wage and overtime requirements). TIA announced last week the appointment of three new vice presidents: Matt Mantione, CAE, to Vice President of Membership, Chris Burroughs to Vice President of Government Affairs and Will Sehestedt to Vice President of Government Affairs. The Association, with more than 1,700 members, is the leading organization devoted to the North American 3PL industry. Rates are cooling off for refrigerated freight across the country, but a few hot spots still remain. Out west, California is quiet but competition for trucks can be fierce in the Twin Fall, ID market.
Cargo Logistics Canada Expo & Conference is North America’s only multimodal show, drawing 2,500+ delegates from across all supply chain sectors annually. The show also attracts many beneficial cargo owners, including executives from North America’s largest manufacturers and retailers, such as Best Buy, Hudson’s Bay Company, Lululemon, Toyota and more. TIA’s Mentorship Program has been so successful that we’ve run out of mentors. We’re looking for experienced and successful brokers with some spare time each month who are willing to pass on their knowledge to the next generation of brokers.
