The Capital Ideas Conference is just around the corner. If you haven’t registered yet, what are you waiting for? This year’s conference will offer you the opportunity to gain insight from shippers, carriers, and leading 3PL CEOs during several highly anticipated panel discussions.

TIA announced today its partnership with Noël Perry, the transportation industry’s leading transportation economist. Perry will provide TIA members with exclusive, laser-sharp insight and analysis on the latest economic, technological, and regulatory issues facing the 3PL industry.

As you may have already heard, Bob Voltmann has invited me to join TIA as a consulting market analyst – your ‘in-house transport economist.’ I am highly flattered by Bob’s invitation and am happy to be associated with so many friends plus have the opportunity to make a lot more. As part of my new role, I will regularly produce commentary about important topics. The timing will be roughly every two weeks. I say ‘roughly’ because it makes the most sense to write when there is something important to write about, rather than on a fixed schedule. Since it is still early in the year, Bob asked me to address the outlook for 2019 in my first piece. Here goes!

Just as rates were about to turn around, they took another hit last week. Van rates were affected most, by extreme weather that closed highways and forced cancellations and delays. Expect flatbeds to rebound first, though, as they bring in heavy machinery that’s needed to repair the damage.

Registration is open for the 11th Maritime Logistics Training Course, April 17-18, 2019 at the Courtyard by Marriott, Miramar, FL.

The TIA 2019 Capital Ideas Conference & Exhibition is just around the corner, but there’s still time to reserve a kiosk. But hurry – we only have a few left. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by. Learn more and register.

TIA’s Mentorship Program has been so successful that we’ve run out of mentors. We’re looking for experienced and successful brokers with some spare time each month who are willing to pass on their knowledge to the next generation of brokers.

Education

Interested in learning how to market your company, but don’t know where to begin? TIA’s new Marketing Transportation Brokerage Services course is designed for those who wish to develop a solid foundation in marketing their company.

Register early for the April 1 CTB course, and gain access to the course the morning of April 1. The online exam will be administered on Sat., June 29, 2019. The Certified Transportation Broker (CTB) Program is the most-widely recognized designation among 3PLs and sets you apart from your peers. Learn more and register here.

“The CTB course was challenging but rewarding. The material provided insight into many industry topics that I had encountered, but never fully understood.” -- Kenton Sprayberry, BR Williams Trucking, Inc.

Learn how one asset-based logistics company used a horrendous cyberattack as a catalyst to work toward a brighter future while maintaining a healthy amount of paranoia. Presenter Wade Anderson, CTO/CIO of Bay & Bay, will share details of the hack, along with how the company responded and how his company got on a first-name basis with lead FBI agents.

TIA joined with TranStrategy Partners in a business alliance to provide a more robust education and services suite for TIA and its membership, starting with the launch of three new assessments available on our site.

Teaching your new employees the basics of brokering in addition to your office operations can be a challenge, so let TIA ease the burden with our unique New Employee Orientation (NEO) course. This course covers all the basics: rules and regulations, how to sell, business ethics and more!
