C.R. England and England Logistics have set a goal to provide funding for one million meals for children in 2019 through partnerships with 21 food banks located in the United States and Mexico. This marks the second consecutive year the two companies have set a goal to provide funding for children’s meals programs as part of the “One Initiative,” a campaign that invites company employees, customers, carriers, freight agents, and the general public to join the fight against childhood hunger. The companies set a combined goal in 2018 of one million donated meals and far exceeded that milestone, funding more than 1.6 million meals by year-end. If you have news you would like to share with other TIA members, send it to us, and we'll place it in the next issue of Logistics Weekly.

Even with record breaking attendance, there’s still time to register for the 2019 Capital Ideas Conference & Exhibition. Join us for four days in sunny Orlando at the best networking and education conference for the brokerage-based 3PL community. The Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA), the voice of the 3PL industry, announced today the launch of its newly designed website. The completely revamped website features a streamlined and modern look, enhanced content and improved functionality. On March 22, 2019, the U.S. Department of Labor released a long-anticipated rulemaking that would make changes to the rules relating to worker eligibility for overtime pay. The Trump Administration rule would seek to fully rescind the 2016 Obama Final Rule on this issue, which is currently in litigation after a federal judge stayed its implementation, and change to the salary level test for exempting certain employees from overtime pay. TIA will file comments on behalf of its members prior to the May 21, 2019 deadline. Last week, President Trump and leaders within his administration continued to threaten a full or partial closure of the U.S. - Mexico border. Border agents are faced with the daunting task of preventing thousands of illegal crossings as well as detaining thousands of aspirational migrants from Central American countries. While the U.S. government attempts to exercise every tool at its disposal to protect its borders, including increased screenings at points of entry and deployment of military personnel, the latest threat to close the border could mean significant disruptions for manufacturing and food/produce supply chains. TIA’s Mentorship Program has been so successful that we’ve run out of mentors. We’re looking for experienced and successful brokers with some spare time each month who are willing to pass on their knowledge to the next generation of brokers.
