The trade press has recently reported that the California Air Resources Board (CARB) has fined Anheuser Busch $500,000 for violating air quality regulations. Last year, CARB fined two major Midwest-based transportation brokers $100,000 and $52,250 for recordkeeping violations associated with CARB's Truck and Bus Rule. California has also passed a law which went into effect on January 1, 2019 that anyone hiring a port drayage motor carrier needs to understand and follow. It's typical for rates to fall after the Fourth of July, and this year was no different. Now that the holiday has passed, there's less urgency for the freight that's moving. That lack of urgency, combined with sufficient capacity and a well-rested workforce, resulted in lower rates last week. Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) has granted 37 logistics professionals the designation of Certified Transportation Brokers (CTB). The CTB allows brokers to differentiate themselves within the marketplace by demonstrating core competencies in three tested sections of: brokerage basics and basic business skills, contracts and pricing, and lastly, the regulatory environment and legal issues. TIA members are at the forefront of digitization of the supply chain, and are constantly challenged to keep ahead of changing technologies to build effective relationships with their customers and carriers. The 3PL industry is made up of companies of all sizes, all of whom can relate to concerns about cybersecurity. Please help TIA understand how you are protecting your business from this threat so that the Association can develop new tools and resources to help you and to help protect the industry.
