Industry News and AdvocacyIn response to several requests and feedback from TIA Members about the impending Dec. 16, 2019 deadline, which requires motor carriers currently utilizing an Automatic On-Board Recording Device or AOBRD to switch to an Electronic Logging Device (ELD), TIA has released a guidance document to assist Members in educating their shipper customers, motor carrier customers and employees. The mandate requires that the ELD be installed on the engine of the commercial motor vehicle and likely would require some time to properly get the ELD installed. Motor carriers should consider not delaying installing the ELD prior to the mandatory date of December 16, 2019. The guidance document can be downloaded from the TIA Highway Logistics Conference webpage. Please feel free to add your logo to the document and distribute to your industry associates. Contact membership@tianet.org Here's something that might surprise you: Spot market truckload volumes were 7% higher in the first six months of 2019 than they were in the first half of 2018, according to the DAT Truckload Volume Index. The index reflects the change in the actual number of loads moved each month, based on contributions to DAT RateView. But for many trucking companies, this hasn't felt like an "up" year. TIA members are at the forefront of digitization of the supply chain, and are constantly challenged to keep ahead of changing technologies to build effective relationships with their customers and carriers. The 3PL industry is made up of companies of all sizes, all of whom can relate to concerns about cybersecurity. Please help TIA understand how you are protecting your business from this threat, so that the Association can develop new tools and resources to help you and to help protect the industry.
