Did You Know? Among many changes during 2019, TIA has launched a new podcast and user-friendly website, enhanced TIA Headquarters Staff, and added TIA consulting services. On Capitol Hill, TIA led a coalition to defeat a measure to make the un-readable, un-tested, CSA raw data public again, helped defeat the limits on 3PL liability in truck accidents, and actively supported the adoption of the USMCA accord. 2020 is shaping up to be another exciting year for our industry, TIA and you will most certainly want to remain a part of it. Please renew your 2020 TIA Membership today [CLICK HERE] so we may continue serving your business again in 2020.

Industry News and Advocacy
The Surface Transportation Board (STB) published two notices of proposed rule-making (NPRM) related to demurrage in the Federal Register on Oct. 15. Both are in response to concerns from shippers and other stakeholders about increasing demurrage charges on commodities shipped by rail. Below, please find summaries of each NPRM and how to submit comments. Buy-side decisions for transportation and logistics services are increasingly driven by both internal subject matter experts and their corporate procurement teams. The traditional procurement perspective yields certain behaviors such as highly structured competitive bid processes and their timelines. The traditional logistics practice of procuring mode-specific service offerings is also, at least anecdotally, giving way to a trend toward going out to bid for wide ranging integrated services with multimodal door-to-door results. One essential question when developing or reviewing RFQ responses is whether, in fact, the desired services may be lawfully offered and performed.
TIA is seeking young professionals to join our Young Executives Committee. Historically, the Young Executives Committee exclusively held an annual lunch event at the April Conference, and no formal activities ensued until the next year. But with the increasing number of young professionals joining the 3PL industry, the moment is ripe to formalize the committee and provide our members with a platform for networking and information sharing with the next generation of leaders within TIA. TIA has partnered with the Addiction Policy Forum, a national nonprofit, to address substance use disorders in the workplace. The partnership will allow you and your employees a confidential, app-based counseling service free of charge. We are passionate about beginning work on this initiative to help our members help employees in need. #TIA2020Con Registration is Open Today!
