The Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE) accredited 63 agencies and designated 688 new officers in 2024. We'd like to share a list of those individuals and agencies from Texas who achieved this noteworthy accomplishment.

Texas Division of Emergency Management (1/29/2025)
Governor Greg Abbott activated additional state emergency response resources due to wildfire danger across West Texas.
LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE NEWSGovernor Abbott gave his State of the State address, where he announced his emergency items for the session. Emergency items are exempted from the constitutional restriction on legislation being considered within the first 60 days of a legislative session (before March 14th). Here is the list:
In the speech, he also discussed various other issues he expects to come up during the session. He specifically mentioned the importance of firefighting, honored the firefighters who fought the Panhandle and Los Angeles fires, and said that firefighters need essential tools like funding and air-tanker planes. Here is the full speech if you’d like to peruse it. Finally, we have six full weeks of bill filing remaining before the March 14th deadline. I’m told the legislative drafting agency has 9,000 drafts in que and is telling offices they have to prioritize drafting requests to make the deadline. TCFP UPDATESThe Texas Commission on Fire Protection respectfully submits for consideration its FY2026-27 Legislative Appropriations Request and seven exceptional items, which total $1,651,577.61 in increased appropriations. The commission is fully committed to careful and prudent stewardship of the funds provided for its operations and adheres to the statewide philosophy that all agencies are to be efficient and accountable. The commission has prepared its LAR in accordance with the instructions issued by the Governor’s Office and Legislative Budget Board.
TCFP offers “regional meetings” throughout the year in a variety of locations around the state. These meetings are opportunities for members of nearby fire departments and other regulated entities to meet some of our staff in person. We want to answer your questions, listen to your concerns, and give timely updates related to commission news.
