On National First Responders Day, we honor the bravery of our Nation’s heroes who put their lives on the line for their fellow Americans each and every day — from law enforcement officers who keep our streets safe and firefighters who rush into burning buildings, to relief workers who care for our families after natural disasters and EMTs, paramedics, and other public health workers who provide life-saving emergency care at a moment’s notice. When tragedies strike, these women and men are always there to help us, and we thank them for their extraordinary service to our country. SOURCE: Fire Safety Matters

Inflammation is associated with many diseases. Research suggests that wildfire smoke can cause inflammation by altering immune cells that normally control and reduce inflammation in the body. Studies have shown that healthy individuals and those with pre-existing conditions are affected by the very small PM2.5 particles produced by wildfire smoke. It is important to support and promote research efforts to study and better understand wildfire smoke-induced pathologies as well as research to investigate potential protections and cures in order to protect the health of those regularly encountering wildfire smoke. Ongoing shortages and global supply chain issues have made it harder to replace older ambulances. Fire departments across Texas are having to wait longer than usual to update their ambulance fleets, driving up costs and forcing many to use outdated vehicles to keep up with calls. Texas fire officials are now drafting a letter to U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to urge his department to help them find a solution. SOURCE: TXK Today The City of Texarkana, Texas has named its new Interim Fire Chief, Chris Black, after the position was vacated by former Fire Chief, Eric Schlotter.
