Steps to Safety (STS) pairs fire service/EMS with their community partners to educate, engage, and bring key resources to their older adults to reduce the incidence, injuries, and deaths from fire and falls. STS is delivered through group presentations, home visits, and the creation of a network of referral and resources to support older adults to live safely and independently at home. If you would like to participate, register for this free hybrid training opportunity in which you will complete a 3-hour online course prior to participation in a half-day in person Train the Trainer session.

TCFP UPDATES
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to ask for your assistance in the timely reporting of
injuries. As you are aware, several years ago, the Legislature placed the responsibility for tracking and investigating Firefighter injuries on TCFP. You see the results of this work each year in our annual Injury Report which is released in September and is now required Continuing Education each year.
FIRE LAW BLOG
In this episode of Fire Law Roundup, hosts Brad and Curt discuss a suit brought by a woman who was injured in an altercation with an on-duty Sparks, Nevada firefighter; a race discrimination suit brought by a lieutenant with the Baltimore City Fire Department; a ruling by the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals holding that the Memphis Fire Department did not discriminate against an African American female who sought a position as an "Airmask Maintenance Mechanic"; a lawsuit filed by a CalFire captain who was demoted claiming harassment and retaliation; an interview with three FDNY chief officers about their suit against the fire commissioner; and a case Brad is handling out of North Amityville, New York that involves inappropriate expenditures of taxpayer funds.
LEADERSHIP
SOURCE: Fire Engineering
“There has really been little focus on the mental health effects of poor leadership. We tend to talk about PTSD because we can blame that on an incident beyond our control. But we don’t want to talk about the root cause of the majority of the stress that causes us issues: organizational vindictiveness, discrimination, favoritism, and exclusion,” Chief David Rhodes said at FDIC International 2023. |
