The International Association of Fire Chiefs' (IAFC) Fire Department Exchange (FDX) Program is accepting applications until July 2 for the upcoming in-person exchange in Lake Tahoe, Nevada on Oct. 9-13. As part of IAFC Wildfire Programs, FDX provides in-person and online exchange platforms for fire departments facing wildland-urban interface (WUI) challenges. The core focus is to encourage exchanges among departments to broaden their knowledgebase, consider alternative measures, create new solutions, and improve overall practices and procedures within their wildfire programs. The Exchange covers key strategies such as mitigation, suppression, response, partnership, outreach, and education.

The 2023 Fire Service Thought Leadership Essay Competition welcomes essays that address the continuing challenges in recruiting and achieving diversity and creating an inclusive collaborative workplace for career, combination, or volunteer FDs and with both uniformed and non-uniformed members of the fire service. Participants are also eligible to apply for certification through State Firefighters’ and Fire Marshals’ Association (SFFMA). This course does NOT offer Pro Board certification. Registration now open. Dates and Locations: Live Fire Instructor The NFPA 1041 Live Fire Instructor course is designed for firefighting personnel qualified to become live fire instructors and satisfies the requirements of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1041 Standard for Fire and Emergency Services Instructor Professional Qualifications, Chapter Seven, “Live Fire Instructor.” It is designed around classroom lectures, group discussions, and group exercises to enhance skills needed to act as a live fire instructor and safely provide live fire training to emergency responders. Upon completion of this course, you are eligible to take the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board) written exam and skills testing. Registration now open. Dates and Locations: Fire Officer III The NFPA 1021 Fire Officer III course is designed to meet the needs of fire executive management and satisfies the requirements of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications, Chapter Six, “Fire Officer III.” It is designed around classroom lectures and group interactive exercises to improve your abilities to manage a fire service organization, with an emphasis on community/government relations, as well as model planning, budgeting, human resources, trends and support organizations, and emergency service delivery. This course includes a written project that requires you to develop a strategic plan. Upon completion of this course you are eligible to take the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board) written exam and project based testing. Participants that receive a Pro Board certification are eligible for certification through Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) reciprocity. Registration will open on July 3. Dates and Locations: Fire and Life Safety Educator I This course is designed for the individual who coordinates and delivers community fire and risk prevention programs that intend to eliminate or mitigate situations that endanger lives, property, and the environment. The Fire and Life Safety Educator I course is designed to satisfy the job performance requirements (JPRs) of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1035 Chapter Four and provide the tools necessary to obtain certification through the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) and State Firefighters’ and Fire Marshals’ Association of Texas (SFFMA).
