Every legislative cycle, our association finds itself on the defensive as we try to protect the occupational licenses that you carry. We acknowledge that to work as a plumber or hvac technician that many hours of training and education took place. We respect that hard work and will continue to promote the health and safety of the citizens of Texas by endorsing work be done by a licensed professional. That stand will never change.
In the realm of speaking with legislators and sharing our story, we find that it is necessary and appropriate to give to their election campaigns. The check we present gives us an audience. We get to share who we are, what we stand for and what our "asks" are at any given moment. Our involvement at the Capitol is strong. We make an effort to reach every legislator who serves on subcommittees dealing with licensing and business-related issues. In addition, we work diligently with the Governor and Lt. Governor's offices to ensure that our trades are promoted in the public education arena.
Current PHCC Texas President, Ricky Stecher of Temple believes so much in the ability to effect change. He recently discussed the importance of contributing financially to the campaigns of our "friends" in Austin. Mr. Stecher recently stated;
"As some of you might be aware December 11 was the last date to file for the general elections in March- it's imperative that you find out if your respective representatives will be facing opponents. Contributing to the PAC fund with PHCC has allowed me to have a part in the efforts the lobby team puts forth to educate, persuade and assist our legislative body. Our financial contributions assist as we try ward off assaults on our industry or shore up support for bills that would benefit us, the plumbing or HVAC professional.
Further, by donating your time, election support or other effort will make your representatives aware that you are a contractor who is proud of the industry you serve. The relationships need to begin now as we approach the 2019 cycle."
