Recognize excellence at your company! Apprentices are invited to apply to compete in the PHCC Apprenticeship Contest: Offering apprentices a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills on a statewide and potentially national stage, PHCC's annual Apprenticeship Contest supports our mission by helping to generate awareness for local apprenticeship programs, boosting interest in the fields of plumbing, and attracting recruits to the industry. We will be holding the Apprentice Contest on Thursday, July 25, with viewing throughout the day and the winner announced that evening at the Bash! All contestants receive prizes and recognition for competing, and the grand prize winner will receive an expenses-paid trip to compete at the national level. This is an important opportunity for our apprentices to showcase their talent, and for us to show our appreciation for the time and effort they have put into the trade. This is a don't miss during the conference. Mark your agenda!! Visit https://www.naylornetwork.com/txp-enews/articles/index.asp?aid=832297&issueID=100115 to view the full article online. |

Question: We would like to create a summer dress code, so our employees do not have to wear suits during the hot summer months. Are we allowed to set a dress code and say what is and is not permitted (e.g., no t-shirts with profanity, nudity, etc.)? Also, we want to allow female employees to wear sandals, but require male employees to wear shoes or sneakers. Is this permissible?

Republican House Speaker Dade Phelan was re-elected to the Texas House in the May primary election runoff along with Republican Representative Gary VanDeaver. However, six other Republican House incumbents lost their runoff elections including representatives Burns, Frazier, Holland, Klick, Kuempel, and Stucky. Representative Shawn Thierry was the only Democrat incumbent defeated. Speaker Phelan intends to seek reelection as Speaker of the House when the legislature convenes for the 89th regular legislative session in January 2025. Two Republicans members, Shelby Slawson and Tom Oliverson, have already announced their intentions to challenge Speaker Phelan for that position. Forty-six Republican Texas House incumbents and nominees signed a letter in late May pledging to only vote for a speaker candidate who will not appoint Democrats to chairmanships. Current House Speaker Dade Phelan, and each of his three Republican predecessors, have appointed Democrats to preside over some House committees. The practice of appointing members of the minority party to chairmanships was also routinely exercised by modern Democratic speakers. Signatories on the letter include current House chairmen Briscoe Cain, JM Lozano, and Tom Oliverson. The House will elect its speaker as its first order of business after being sworn into office in January 2025. Nominees for two open state senate seats were also decided in May. Republican Brent Hagenbuch won the seat to replace Senator Drew Springer while Democrat Molly Cook defeated State Representative Jarvis Johnson to replace former Senator John Whitmire. Both seats are considered safe for the Republican and Democratic nominees in the November election. Courtney Arbour was named the executive director of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) in May. Ms. Arbour comes to TDLR from the Texas Workforce Commission where she served as the Workforce Development Directo
