TSTC, the state's leader in technical education, and TSBPE have joined forces to provide a greater and more efficient method of administering exams for Texas plumbers. A ribbon-cutting held Tuesday, Jan. 25, at Texas State Technical College's Waco campus marked the opening of a high-tech testing facility for licensing by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE).

On January 11, the State of Texas Plumbing Examiners Board announced a reciprocal license agreement with the State Plumbing Board of La, effective immediately. This deal reciprocates Texas’ journeyman license with Louisiana’s journeyman with gas fitter license. Journeymen plumbers from Texas will be able to register for a reciprocal natural gas fitter and journeyman plumbing license without an additional examination requirement. Louisiana applicants must hold both the journeyman and the gas fitter license in order to qualify.

Extreme weather events in the past few years have highlighted the ways in which both states will benefit from this agreement, ultimately increasing the availability of trained plumbing professionals across the coast and beyond.

Effective January 1, 2022, all TSBPE exam applicants are now required to submit fingerprint data. Any exam application received after this date will remain open and unscheduled until the exam candidate's fingerprint data has been received by the TSBPE.
