STA Certified Compost Growing in Credibility for Specifiers

The USCC is constantly strengthening the STA Certified Compost program. This spring we tightened up the STA Certified Compost and the Compost Consumer Use (CCUP) rules contracts.

  • The program was branded “STA Certified Compost” in these central documents. Other old names for the program were taken out. We will be giving you more information on why branding is important and how to help use and strengthen the program’s brand soon.
  • The STA Certified Compost logo was updated to the square registered logo that was new three years ago.
  • We tightened our definition of compost to the Association of American Plant Food Control Officials (AAPFCO) definition and clarified rules for vermicompost.
  • The testing frequency differences for compost made from certain types of feedstocks were taken out. We want to hold everyone to the same standards.
  • We updated the references to where the USCC’s main office is located.
  • References to section numbers throughout the document were checked, webpage links updated. We referenced derivative products with more consistent terminology.
  • The STA Certified Compost certificate was updated to a more formal one that lists which of your specific products are in the program.

We are pleased to continue to make the STA Certified Compost program more sought-after by specifiers and end users. Thank you for the feedback and support we have received from you as we’ve been making these changes.
