North Carolina

The NC DEQ is now taking comments on revised Compost Facility Rules. The comment period is open from June 17, 2019 through August 16, 2019.

State regulators will hold a public hearing on the rules on July 16, 2019 at 6 p.m. at:

Maryland

Legislation passed in the spring session that waives $0.25-per-ton bulk fee on compost inspections by the Maryland Department of Agriculture to cover inspection costs; government facilities must still pay the fee.

Minnesota

The Minnesota Composting Council is reviewing a white paper by Ron Alexander, of R Alexander and Associates, on compost and phosphorous content. The MNCC commissioned the project to counteract misinformation about phosphorous leaching from compost. The paper is expected to be released in the summer.

Illinois

The Illinois legislature passed HB3068 to create a statewide materials management plan, using 2018 as the base year. Two members of the compost industry have been appointed to the team putting together the plan.
