The International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) Committee has chosen "Soil Loves Compost" as the theme for 2020 through a new collaboration with the USCC Market Development Committee. ICAW 2020 will take place May 3-9, 2020.
USCC’s Target Organics Committee was formed to support municipalities in developing, executing and growing programs to collect and process food scraps and other organics. Committee assessments are underway with municipalities across the U.S. to provide alignment and engagement of many USCC, CCREF and member services; programs; and other resources housed within the association and its specialized member network.
We’re excited to announce our newly opened USCC C-Store! We have a number of books, as well as the USCC calendar and other items available for purchase. The book selections range from backyard composting to books for commercial-scale and community composting.
We are looking for expertise and support from compost manufacturers and suppliers who work with the U.S. college and university community, as well as institutional generators of compostable materials. With your help, we're putting together the second edition of the Equipment Guide for Small Scale and Institutional Composting, as well as the Campus Composting Manual!
Two members have written for us recently, one about providing composting of waste generated at the Standing Rock reservation during the pipeline activist fight - in frigid temperatures - and another member about the invigorating experience of lobbying your legislature for good compost laws and regulations.

USCC members from the State of Ohio have affiliated with the U.S. Composting Council as an official state chapter of the USCC, it was announced this month. The Ohio Organics Council (OOC) is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit focusing on promoting the composting and organics recycling industry in the State of Ohio.
Kimberly Clark, a Benefactor member, has released their latest Sustainability Report, which contains a new goal for doubling the company’s greenhouse gas reduction target from 20% to 40% by 2022.
Cedar Grove Compost, a silver member, has announced the 2019 "Seeds for Scholars" scholarship winners, Sidney Gindroz of Tahoma High School in Maple Valley and Mehul Krishna of Liberty High School in Renton. Each was awarded $2,500 towards their tuition this fall.

BioDOGradable Bags, a Bronze member, was one of two winners of Green America's Spring People and Plant Award! This season's award, with a $5,000 cash prize, focused on businesses that provide alternatives to plastic. The winners were businesses that either produce a product that is an alternative to plastic or that produce a product commonly made from plastic but which the business is making from other materials. The business also represented strong social and environmental leadership in general.

Governor Phil Murphy is (hopefully) being bombarded with email in his office in the New Jersey, and we can thank one of our newest charter chapters, the New Jersey Composting Council, for the work. In a covert late-session move, legislation that was originally designed to incentivize additional food waste composting (A3726 and S1206) was changed to allow food waste to be disposed of in incinerators and landfills.
