On Oct. 24 & 25, the Southeast Cement Promotion Association, in partnership with the Virginia DOT and the Virginia Asphalt Association, hosted the 2016 Full-Depth Reclamation Symposium in Richmond, Virginia. This event was well attended with more than 220 participants from multiple states in the southeast. This was a unique occasion where participants from the asphalt industry, concrete industry, along with multiple municipalities and representatives from several state DOTs were in attendance, all excited to learn more about "The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly" of FDR.
Speakers from multiple states shared their experiences with Full-Depth Reclamation. The presentations ranged from the basic concepts of FDR with practical information to specific case studies and updates on current projects, including Interstate-81 in Staunton District and the current status of VDOT’s section on the NCAT Test Track. The experiences ranged from work performed at regional airports and significant use on the Blue Ridge Parkway to rehabbing subdivision roads and parking lots. The instruction covered the construction techniques, inspection methods and acceptance procedures. The symposium wrapped up with a full-scale demonstration by Slurry Pavers, Inc. in the parking lot at The Westin Richmond.
