Over the course of one week, more than 600 people attended one of the three VDOT Asphalt Seminars held in Roanoke, Fredericksburg and Richmond. The 2017 seminars, jointly hosted by VAA and VDOT, covered work site safety, the new OSHA Silica regulation, longitudinal joint straightness, preventive maintenance techniques and various other topics. Each seminar was opened by the host district’s District Engineer and was concluded with an afternoon panel.
Following the seminars, attendees were asked to complete a survey. From the results, forty one percent of the responders enjoyed either the work zone safety discussion or the longitudinal joint straightness presentation. While these were the two most popular, attendees ranked all of the presentations very high. Attendees were also asked to provide comments for use in developing the 2018 seminars. Many topics were provided along with ways to improve the seminar experience. The seminar planners appreciate all of the comments provided.
The 2017 seminar presentations and Work Zone Safety video are available on the VAA website and VDOT website. You can also find the Work Zone Safety video on the VECAT Youtube site.
