Don Silies officially announced his retirement, this week, after 41 years with VDOT. HIs last working day will be Monday, April 30, 2018 with a retirement date of May 1st.
In a general letter Mr. Silies said, "I truly appreciate having had the pleasure of working with you over the course of my almost 41-year tenure with VDOT. I feel like I had two careers with the Department: twenty years in the NOVA District, and then over twenty in Central Office. I came to know most of you in my role as the State Contract Engineer. I have always been extremely proud that you trusted me; so much so that you were willing to talk candidly about your business and how the way VDOT did business, effected yours. Whenever I reached out for help in a crisis or other time of need, I knew I could count on you. You always came through. When I talk to my peers in other states, they are envious of the relationship VDOT has with its contracting partners. I will miss those relationships and interactions."
We wish him well in his coming retirement. To read the full letter from Mr. Silies click here.
