VLA's Surprise Visitor

Print Print this Article | Send to Colleague

VLA held their monthly meeting on Wednesday, March 19th at the Panera Bread in Waynesboro where they received a surprise visit from US Senator Mark Warner! NAA has been trying to get Senator Warner to appear at one of their events for months but his busy schedule hasn't allowed for it and then he popped in on VLA! It was certainly a treat for our members! So, be sure to attend the monthly VLA meetings...you never know what you might miss!

We also heard from Brian Gordon, lobbyist for VAMA, as our guest speaker. Brian spoke to our membership about recent legislation signed into law that shall take effect on July 1st, 2014. For the most part, this session was a win for VAMA although there were a few losses. Brian also spoke about the Shadow Days that he hosted this year at the General Assembly where he welcomed some of our industry staff to join him in lobbying for our causes. He put together the talking points and positioned them so that they could meet with the targeted politicians and lobby our issues. Brian was able to make sure that one staff member from Charlottesville was introduced to all of the legislators from the Charlottesville area. Brian encourages anyone interested in participating next year to contact Patrick McCloud or Kathy Howery (VAMA Staff) or even Brian, himself. It is crucial for legislators to see the faces of their constituents to lend weight to the positions of our industry.
