The American Dream increasingly involves a lease, not a mortgage.  Fifty-two of the 100 largest U.S. cities were majority-renter in 2015, according to U.S. Census Bureau data compiled for Bloomberg by real estate brokerage Redfin. 

  

A rural community west of Short Pump could be getting its first taste of its denser-development neighbor.

  

The city approved Beach-based developer United States Management’s loan commitment letter for the $220 million project, Sessoms announced.

  

The path is now clear for a five-story apartment building at the foot of Libby Hill, on the same site where a much taller development once was proposed.

  

 

The Piedmont Housing Alliance has spent the past 18 months developing a plan to quadruple the residential density at a redeveloped Friendship Court.

  

The council Tuesday instructed Town Manager Marc Verniel to prepare a presentation listing the conditions required for the move. The discussion follows the town’s failed attempt to acquire the former Blacksburg High School from Montgomery County.
