Soon Virginia’s General Assembly will meet again, and this time in person, to allocate and divide up the roughly 7 billion dollars in federal aid that is coming down to Virginia’s state and local governments as a result of the American Recovery Plan. The exact dates have yet to be determined, but early-August is looking like a likely timeframe for the chambers to open once more, this time with the General Assembly seated in their chambers in the Virginia Capitol for the first time since the 2020 Regular Session in January of last year.
The NAA Click & Lease Program for Virginia was updated on June 2, 2021 to include changes to your lease forms. The Release Notes, which are accessible when logged into your NAA Click & Lease Program, include copies of these upcoming forms. Should you have any questions about these changes, please contact NAA. Every year NAA awards grants to property management firms, supplier partners, member associations and related organizations that have innovative ideas and will provide meaningful contributions to our industry. NAA’s total pool of funds for the Innovation in Diversity and Inclusion (IDI) Grant is $25,000 per fiscal year. Grants should reflect NAA's dedication to encouraging a workforce environment that is inclusive, supportive and rich in diversity.
The National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC)’s Rent Payment Tracker, which surveys over 11.7 million apartment units each month, found that 77% of households made a full or partial payment between June 1 - 6, 2021. This is down from the 80.8% that had made a payment by June 6, 2020, and down from the 80% that had made a payment by May 6, 2021.

A former case officer with the Central Intelligence Agency, Representative Spanberger first won election in 2017, and now serves on the US House Committee on Agriculture, where she chairs the Conservation & Forestry Subcommittee. She also sits on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Lingerfelt Development, a subsidiary of Innsbrook-based real estate firm Lingerfelt CommonWealth Partners, is looking to add hundreds of apartments and structured parking beside five office buildings it owns across the park along Cox Road. The Henrico Planning Commission is scheduled to consider the requests at its July 15 meeting.
Breeden Construction announces the completion of Lexington Place, an affordable housing redevelopment project in Portsmouth, Va. Breeden Construction served as the third party general contractor. The project was completed for the developers Pennrose and the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority.
Henrico supervisors have approved plans for as many as 500 units to be built on the site of the recently closed JCPenney. In addition to the apartments, plans for VCC call for a mix of residential and retail, including townhomes. An initial batch of 75 townhomes from Stanley Martin Homes is in the works for a 5-acre site between the mall and Brook Road, with plans for three-story units priced in the high $200,000s.
