A rezoning has been approved for the site of the former Lincoln Park Housing Development near downtown Hampton, to make way for a $130 million project. The developer has plans to build 100 single-family homes, an apartment building and retail space.
Nearly two years ago, the Laurel Park shopping center in Henrico was demolished. Now, construction has started on the mixed-use development that will take its place. The development, named Ainsworth, will include 278 apartments, 72 rental townhomes and retail space.
S.L. Nusbaum Realty Co. has broken ground on 288 Lofts, a new 160-unit affordable community. The one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments will feature energy-efficient appliances and patios or balconies.
Construction has begun on Bainbridge Midlothian, a 310-unit Class A community outside Richmond. Amenities include a fitness center, pool, outdoor gathering spaces and walking trails, a dog park and pet spa.
The 175-unit townhome community, 5 miles from Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport, was built in 1976 and features hardwood floors and in-unit washers and dryers. The community was recently purchased by Ritz Banc Group for $25 million.
The Portsmouth City Council just approved two apartment projects. The first is a 192-unit Class A community at the site of the former Churchland Kroger, with a phase 2 later bringing 40 additional units. The second project, a 50-unit affordable community, will be called Bains Pointe Apartments, named after Eliza Bains who was a notable participant in the Underground Railroad in Portsmouth.
As one new apartment community in Manchester finishes up construction, its developers have started on a new project nearby. The Box, located at 510 Decatur Street, is expected to be finished in April, and contruction will begin on its second phase at 600 Decatur Street. The six-story building will house 167 units and 3,700 square feet of commercial space.
Marina Shores, a 392-unit community built in 1991, was sold to FPA Multifamily for $101.9 million. Amenities include a pool, fitness center, two dog parks, tennis court and more.
