The construction crews from Lantz and Riddleberger Brothers joined in the Holiday Sing-a-Long at John C. Myers Elementary School where renovation is currently in progress. The students sang "Deck the Halls with Renovation" and as you can see, everyone had a great time.

Seventy years ago when E.I. Clancy and John Theys founded their construction company, they never could have visualized the projects they would build let alone the legacy they would leave behind.

Workforce Development

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has asked AGCVA members for help in reviewing the Pluming and Masonry Curriculum for K12 Career and Technical Education. We are looking for industry professionals who are interested in reviewing curriculum in order to provide sound advice on how to best prepare students for a career in these fields.
Serving on the VDOE curriculum review committee is a one day commitment in Richmond, VA. The trade dates are as follows:

Plumbing I & II – February 7th, 2020
Masonry I & II – February 21st, 2020
Safety

National AGC Safety Awards (NASA) program has been an ongoing effort since 1991 to offer AGC members an opportunity to evaluate their safety record. NASA compares an AGC member’s safety record with other AGC members according to the member size and construction type. Additionally, NASA provides a great opportunity for members who have excellent safety records to compete for nationally recognized awards.  The deadline for submission is February 7, 2020.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has issued a temporary enforcement policy to allow for crane operator certifications issued prior to December 2, 2019 by the Crane Institute Certification (CIC) to be temporarily accepted by the agency. OSHA requires crane operators engaged in construction activity to be certified by an entity holding accreditation through a nationally recognized agency. CIC no longer holds such accreditation. The policy explains that, although CIC-issued certifications are not compliant with OSHA’s operator certification requirement, OSHA does not intend to cite employers for operating equipment that violates that requirement if their operators, in good faith, obtained CIC-issued certifications prior to December 2, with the belief the certifications met the standard’s requirements. Until further notice, OSHA will not accept CIC certifications – including re-certifications – issued on or after December 2, 2019.
AGC of America and Autodesk are launching a new $75,000 grant program to help member firms provide safety harnesses for women. The grant program is designed to help firms attract more women into the construction profession while continuing to meet the highest levels of workplace safety. As part of that effort, winning firms will be selected based on their ability to leverage relatively small grant awards to attract more women and provide them with appropriately-sized safety harnesses. AGC is accepting applications until January 10, 2020. Click "learn more" for more information about the grant program and how to apply.
Calendar & Events

It is always important to have the best trained, most efficient workforce possible. In today’s construction markets, it is even more important. Thus AGC makes available a wide range of training programs to help its members. And while many of the classes are conducted in the AGC training facility, AGC districts have been extremely aggressive in addressing this need by conducting a variety of programs in the districts, thereby making them not only more convenient, but also less costly.
Help us kick-off the celebration of the 2020 AGCVA Convention!
