A Word From AGCVA Chair, Arlene Lee

Creating Tomorrow

Preparing for the 100-year celebration and the next iteration of AGCVA’s strategic plan is a great moment to pause and to ponder what we have accomplished and what comes next.

The previous strategic plan has directly fed the annual business plan and goals for the last three years. Much of what was imagined has been put into action. These are evidenced by the many accomplishments in the Advocate, Grow, and Connect pillars and supported through the core values of Skill, Integrity, Responsibility, and Camaraderie with the aspiring value of Inclusion. The Board of Directors agree these elements are still the framework to build on going forward, and there are areas that may be improved to create efficiencies to allow staff and volunteers to be more effective. These efficiencies are areas AGCVA would like to grow to better support and attract members and advance advocacy.

This effort has been supported by Lowell Aplebaum and Trevor Michell of VistaCova. They support organizations in the strategic planning process and have made a tremendous difference in helping the Board of Directors, CEO, staff, district leaders and other volunteer leaders define and clarify a strategic vision and the operational adjustments to support the vision.

No one likes to change. Change done by you is different than change done to you. With this in mind, thoughts, opinions, and input from members at every level, district, and component have been included. Leaders throughout the organization have been involved in crafting what the next three-to-five years will look like and define the direction AGCVA is moving.

Consideration of what the industry might look like in the next 100 years, or 10 years for that matter, has been an exciting backdrop in charting the course. AGCVA is focused on being “State Strong and Locally Powerful” in all that it does. The Board of Directors and district officers will convene at the Summer Conference to continue refining the plan. Areas of focus we continue to evaluate are consolidated operations and finances to improve efficiencies, efficient and effective communication, strategically aligned governance, breaking down silos, and a mindset shift. There has been significant effort and progress made with the goal to have the Strategic Plan finalized at the October board meeting and rolled out to membership at the Annual Convention in February. I want to thank everyone for their involvement, respectable and lively conversation, and lastly the commitment to AGCVA.
