This is Your AGC
From oyster roasts to clay shoots, from golfing to meeting legislators, from training from one end of the state to the other, there is so much going on at AGCVA. The mixing of groups, the ideas shared, the knowledge gained, and then passed on is the heartbeat of an organization.
Your AGC is hard at work for you. The AGCVA Board has worked diligently all year preparing for the next century. October 25th was particularly notable, with the third board meeting of the year, approving a new Strategic Plan, Business Plan, Organizational Alignment Plan, and the corresponding recommended updates to the AGCVA Bylaws that will be voted on by general membership at the 2025 Annual Convention in February.
Taking on all of these in one year is tremendous and I give hearty thanks to the board for meeting the challenge. Strong thought leaders both amplify and challenge one another to bring their best game, and the results of this process will positively impact the organization for many years to come.
Some of the notable member-facing changes will include an upgrade to the AGVCA website and event registration system, a continued focus on education, training, and supporting workforce development.
The business plan also lays out the expansion of advocacy through the creation of a “Blueprint” document that proactively educates legislators and other stakeholders about the needs, concerns, and trends for the construction industry. The goal is to help them understand the effects of policy and laws on the industry and to proactively support decision making and policy creation.
The Operational Alignment plan focuses on opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce risk in the organization both at the district and state level while increasing member support and member value.
Lastly, the bylaw updates include several important changes all centered on strengthening your association. This includes a more strategic process for the selection of AGCVA board of directors’ members, including an update to board composition to ensure representation reflects the membership. It also better manages financial risk for the association by properly aligning volunteer and staff roles. Finally, the changes make some smaller best practice updates like more gender-neutral language.
All the changes are part of a greater plan focused on member needs, experience, and growth. This is your AGC, and we invite you to lean-in and become more involved. Opportunities abound to Advocate, Connect, Grow and we can’t wait to see you!
