Creating Tomorrow
Preparing for the one-hundred-year celebration and the next iteration of AGCVA’s strategic plan is a great moment to pause and to ponder what we have accomplished and what comes next. The previous strategic plan has directly fed the annual business plan and goals for the last three years. Much of what was imagined has been put into action. These are evidenced by the many accomplishments in the Advocate, Grow, and Connect pillars and supported through the core values of Skill, Integrity, Responsibility, and Camaraderie with the aspiring value of Inclusion. The Board of Directors agree these elements are still the framework to build on going forward, and there are areas that may be improved to create efficiencies to allow staff and volunteers to be more effective. These efficiencies are areas AGCVA would like to grow to better support and attract members and advance advocacy. AGCVA members have been up to a lot in the last month!
We are thrilled to recognize these accomplishments and recognitions, and we encourage you to connect with your fellow members and extend your congratulations! Please join us in celebrating the membership anniversaries of these longtime AGCVA members!

It did not take long for federal courts to apply the Supreme Court’s landmark June 28 decision in Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo overturning the court’s Chevron deference standard.
In fact, on the same day the high court handed down Loper Bright, Judge Sean Jordan cited the decision in his own analysis of the Department of Labor’s overtime regulations under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Jordan found that DOL exceeded its statutory authority by issuing a salary level test in its final overtime rule that “effectively displaces” the FLSA’s exemption of employees with certain duties from overtime pay. Construction Dive In the wake of President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, construction is starting to see some follow-up developments, but industry officials caution that the impacts of his move that makes Vice President Kamala Harris the lead Democratic candidate remain to be seen.
ENR WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT
Construction employment increased in 35 states in June from a year earlier, while 29 states added construction jobs between May and June, according to a new analysis of federal employment data released by the Associated General Contractors of America. AGC of America Wage growth is routinely touted as one positive aspect of the COVID-era economy. However, high levels of inflation beginning in 2021 have, in many cases, more than offset increases in pay. In the construction industry, for example, the average worker has less purchasing power today than in the years leading up to the pandemic. Despite persistent labor shortages and record levels of spending, the absolute changes in earnings for construction workers have failed to keep pace with rising costs.
