As you’re getting ready for the season and year-end renewals ... I’m getting ready for the legislature. With the entire legislature up for election this coming year in 2019, I’m sure we have some fun politics to deal with during the upcoming session.
Recently, we have spent an extraordinary amount of time on four legislative proposals that impact us and we’ve also worked hard to ensure that all the agent associations – VAHU, NAIFA-Virginia and PIA – are speaking with a unified voice. Together we have a strong political interest in a number of agent-specific pieces of legislation.
This is also a time where we start meeting with some of our legislative friends. This is where your VAPAC dollars come in handy. Again, with the 2019 elections, all the legislators are looking for help as they cannot hold fundraisers as long as the legislature is in session.
So, to let you know, Joe Hudgins and I may seem out of pocket from January through March but you can find us downtown at the legislature. Why don’t you come visit?
Speaking of which, mark January 30 on your calendar for the IIAV Insurance Day on the Hill. It is a good day to come hear what’s coming up in the legislature but it's also important for the agents to have a show of force in meetings with the individual legislators themselves. During last year’s event we had a lot of young agents attend and we expect them to show up again now that they are old hats at this process.
