ACSR Spotlight - Marilyn Donohoe

Marilyn Donohoe of McLean Insurance Agency in Potomac Falls, Va., has been in the insurance industry for more than 25 years. She graduated from the Lincoln School of Commerce in Lincoln, Neb. and began her career in insurance right after graduation. Marilyn’s first job was as a commercial rater at Union Insurance in Lincoln. After three years, Marilyn decided it was time for a change, so she moved to Phoenix. There, she began working as an assistant underwriter at New Hampshire Insurance and also met her husband. Her husband’s job transferred him frequently, which meant they moved regularly. After Phoenix, they moved to Salt Lake City and Marilyn was an underwriter for Transwestern Insurance. Seven years later, Colorado Springs became the city Marilyn called home and where she worked for Six & Gevings Insurance Agency. Marilyn was away from the insurance industry for a few years while she and her family resided in England. They then moved to Leesburg, Va., and, in October 2006, Marilyn began working for McLean Insurance, where she is a commercial lines account manager.

After many years on the company side, Marilyn decided to switch to the agency side. When she began working at her first agency, she became a licensed P&C agent. Marilyn obtained her commercial lines ACSR in October 2008. Earning the ACSR designation was very beneficial. In her words, "The courses gave me the confidence to explain coverages, which has allowed me to develop more business and client relationships."

The 2010 IIAV ACSR Tribute Day, held Sept. 17 at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, is a day Marilyn will not forget. She received the 2010 ACSR of the Year award. Maureen Scholz, a co-worker at McLean Insurance, surprised Marilyn by presenting the award to her. They have worked together closely at the agency since Marilyn began there. It was a touching moment for all.

When not busy at the office, Marilyn enjoys spending time with friends and family as well as going on date nights with her husband. She has been married to her best friend, Kevin, for 27 years. Together they have two sons, Patrick and John, and a new daughter-in-law, Heather. Patrick and Heather live in Raleigh, N.C. and are both graduates of Virginia Tech. John is a junior at Virginia Tech, majoring in engineering. Marilyn also enjoys helping out in the community by being involved with Loudoun Caregivers.

McLean Insurance Agency was established in 1971 by Henry C. Megill, Jr. The mission of the agency is to establish a long-term trusted advisor relationship with all of their clients and to act as a resource for information that helps clients achieve both their individual and corporate goals.
