On behalf of Virginia Insurance Commissioner Scott White, here is some important information regarding the upcoming open enrollment period for 2019 individual health plans.
Virginia marketplace consumers will receive a letter estimating their premium and subsidy amounts for continuing with their current plan, or the new plan selected for them by their carrier if the current plan is not offered in 2019. Lower premiums for 2019 could cause this estimation to be significantly different than individuals’ actual costs. Failure to update marketplace accounts could result in consumers paying significantly more than necessary for 2019 plans.
The Bureau of Insurance of the State Corporation Commission is encouraging consumers to update their marketplace accounts through the federal exchange during open enrollment between November 1 and December 15. Updating this information is the only way to ensure the 2019 premium amount and the financial assistance for which consumers qualify is correct. Please let your constituents know that they may contact www.healthcare.gov (tollfree 800-318-2596) or they may contact the Bureau at 877-310-6560.
The Bureau of Insurance released this news release on October 23, 2018.
