In response to two legislative proposals during the 2018 Session of the General Assembly, the DMV is conducting an industry-wide study on what Virginia can do to increase the number of insured drivers on today’s highways. IIAV is the only agent’s organization represented on this study panel. Presently, Virginia is ranked 17th lowest of 51 jurisdictions, with only 9.9 percent of the drivers on the roads uninsured. Florida is ranked as the state with the highest percentage of uninsured drivers at 26.7 percent. IIAV Member Resources

Sets Annual Meeting Date – Membership Set for Electronic Balloting The IIAV Board of Directors have approved the report from the Nominations committee for the new slate of officers and directors for the association for the 2018/19 year. As Chair-elect, Hunter Odom, Jr., with Suffolk Insurance Corporation out of Suffolk, Virginia will automatically become IIAV Chairman for the Coming year. Congratulations to Melanie Miller, AINS, CPIW, who passed her CPCU 540 (Finance and Accounting for Insurance Professionals) exam. Melanie has now successfully completed four parts of the CPCU curriculum and is eager to continue her progression to eventually earn the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters (CPCU) Designation. Melanie joined IIAV’s insurance division (VFSC) in January 2017, and is working as an Insurance Account Manager. She helps service Professional Liability, Cyber Liability, Commercial Umbrella and Employment Practices Liability business, with multifaceted experience spanning two decades in this industry. Melanie has served in roles from underwriting niche insurance products to forms implementation, software configuration and process improvement. She has been a licensed Property & Casualty insurance agent for over 16 years. You asked, and we listened! We are excited to announce that the RLI Personal Umbrella policy will be making some major eligibility and underwriting changes for new and renewal business with an effective date of June 1, 2018, and later.
