There are several key benchmarks that independent insurance agencies use to measure their success. They include retention rate, sales velocity, profitability, and revenue per employee — just to name a few.
In many cases, the historic metrics for each of these benchmarks are being redefined by agencies that are thinking differently about how the work within each role inside an agency is accomplished. Those that are able to rethink “the way we have always done it” at the task level are finding ways to drive efficiency, unlock capacity, and drive up the profitability inside their agency.

Former Markel Group CEO Alan Kirshner, died on March 17, said the company. He was 88 years old.
The Richmond, Virginia-based insurer said today that Kirshner, who was chairman and CEO of Markel Group from 1986 through 2015, was instrumental in “transforming the company from a privately held regional insurer to a family of businesses with global reach.”

Brokers have a recent track record of underestimating themselves. In each of the past three years, when brokers have forecasted their annual organic growth performance at the beginning of the year, they have outperformed their projected growth results. In fact, brokers are exceeding their own estimates by an average of 2.7% for these three years. When betting on brokers, the over has had a good run.
