Insurance fraud is a felony that cost Virginians $40 million last year. Worse still, the cost of fraudulent claims rose 165 percent over the last five years. Fraud is everywhere — whether obvious or not — and it's a problem that is both dangerous and costly.

Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) has agreed to settle potential violations of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) Privacy and Security Rules following an investigation by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights (OCR) that found widespread and diverse problems at OHSU, which will be addressed through a comprehensive three-year corrective action plan.

 The ACA Transitional Reinsurance and Risk Corridor Programs that charge fees/taxes are set to expire effective January 1st 2017. These fees/taxes have been collected from insurance carriers and certain employers in 2014, 2015, and 2016 in hopes to provide rate stabilization in the health insurance marketplace.
