President's Message

Dear APTA Virginia members,

I hope this message finds you all well and safe. Since our last newsletter, lots of changes have occurred.

First, many of our fellow members have seen reduction in work or been furloughed from their positions as a direct result of COVID-19. APTA Virginia has been proud to be a resource to many of you who reached out for guidance through this process. Our hopes and prayers are for these situations to be short term and all members can be back treating patients quickly.

Second, APTA Virginia has been working with third-party payers to request or to gain clarity on telehealth services approval throughout the state. For the largest payer in Virginia, the only guidance that they delivered to providers state-wide was through APTA Virginia! How is that for getting value for your membership?

Third, your state legislative key contacts have been in frequent communication with state and federal elected officials requesting programmatic changes to varying payer positions including removing term limits on telehealth, supporting waivers to avoid 8% cuts to PT reimbursement from CMS, and removing cost sharing requirements for patients during the pandemic.

Fourth, we have worked hard to provide up-to-date information on human resource related issues such as Paycheck Protection Loans for those who are eligible. To keep track of all of these changes and more, please be sure to visit our COVID-19 landing page on the APTA Virginia Website. In spite of all of the negative impact associated with coronavirus, we are pleased to have been able to serve our membership with frequent and voluminous updates to assist you in your respective practices. Whether you are a seasoned veteran PT or PTA or perhaps you are a new graduate about to enter the workforce, there is no better time to be a member of this organization and demonstrate success through community.

Private Practice Special Interest Group
For a number of years there has been a robust private practice special interest group (PPSIG) within APTA Virginia. Now that we have a more modern website platform, we have opportunities to keep special interest groups, such as the private practice group, more informed with specific information tailored to your practice setting as well as manage growth of these special interest groups. If you work in a private practice setting or are considering working in or opening a private practice, please consider joining the PPSIG so that we may connect with you. There is no additional cost to join and it is a great way to meet and connect with people with similar interests.

All and only the best,
Josh
