We are incredibly proud of our VCU students who served as co-hosts for the 2016-2017 VCU-Marquette Challenge and still managed to place second by raising $37,834!!  This year, 146 schools nationwide  participated in creative efforts to support the Foundation, raising a total of $340,986. A record number of schools returned to participate this year, yielding a 70% retention rate. Since its inception, 269 schools have contributed to the challenge, raising over $3.7 million for physical therapy research.  VCU has also been inducted into the Collegiate Society since they have raised over $200,000 during the past twelve years.

The students raised the money by sponsoring continuing education events, a golf tournament and numerous smaller fund-raisers.

Tom Mayhew was awarded the FAPTA, particularly recognizing his important role in education.  Tom played an important role in the development of the American Council of the American Council of Academic Physical Therapy (ACAPT).  He received the Lucy Blair Service Award in 2014 and has continued to serve as an ELI mentor and as a Virginia delegate.  We appreciate his leadership and mentorship that have influenced many students and faculty across the country.

Shawn Soper was part of the Oxford Debate.

Stacy Dusing was awarded the Stephen Haley Research Award from the APTA Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy.  This was well deserved because of her consistent and meaningful contribution to pediatric Physical Therapy research for the last decade. She has given over 40 platform or poster research presentations at national meetings and was incited to participate in the Early Intervention Pre-Conference Symposium and Research Collaboration Workshop at the 2016 International Cerebral Palsy Conference in Stockholm, Sweden. She is already grooming the next generation of pediatric physical therapists and educators through the research in her laboratory, by chairing the APTA Academy of Pediatric PT Research Committee and by serving on the Scientific Review Board of the Foundation for Physical Therapy.
