On Saturday, June 9 at the University of Richmond, we screened Special Olympics athletes for about 6 hours. We had a total of 45 volunteers who included 12 PTs, 3 PTAs, and 30 Student PTs and PTAs from Mary Baldwin University, VCU, ECPI and Hampton University.

Thanks to all of our wonderful volunteers, we were able to screen 113 athletes! The education we provided allowed athletes to take what they learned and apply it for their next sport season and for improved functioning and fitness in their daily lives. Events like this are very beneficial to the athletes and provided clinicians and students the opportunity to network, teach and learn and honor our commitment to give back as healthcare providers.

The next FUNfitness event in this area will be with Special Olympics DC in the Fall! This event will be held at Catholic University on Friday, October 5 from approximately 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please email Erin Wentzell, Clinical Director for Special Olympics DC if you are interested in volunteering!
