Virginia was well represented at the House of Delegates, held this year in Orlando FL from June 24-27. There was a very full agenda, most of which was heard, debated, and decided.

The House opened with an address from President Dunn. Her address is posted on the APTA website and if you have yet to hear it, it is well worth a few minutes of your time. She helped set the tone for a productive House session and inspired us all to serve passionately as we work towards our vision.

Dan Mills, PT, MPT, will serve the 2-year remainder of Hyland's unexpired term as director.

Motions considered by the delegates covered a broad array of topics and included consideration of a host of motions resulting from review of House policies by a Special Committee of the House that has been functioning over the past year. A list of notable motions adopted can be found at the following link:

In addition, there are clips from House proceedings available for viewing on the APTA website.

Virginia sponsored a motion (known as an RC) to the House of Delegates this year that would have provided each Section/Academy of the APTA the opportunity to vote in the House of Delegates. Based on the rules of the House the motion was ordered at the end of the agenda and required a vote of 2/3 of the delegates to be heard. Unfortunately with time running short, the motion to hear the proposed RC failed and thus it was not presented. That was, of course, disappointing to us; however, we believe that the numerous conversations we had with delegates during the House were effective in helping people see that value of the Section vote. We are hopeful that this progress will help the motion be adopted when it is next heard in the House.

If you have questions or desire additional information about any actions taken by the House, please feel free to contact a delegate for more information. Thank you for allowing us to represent you at this important meeting!
