Fellow APTA Virginia members,

I hope you are all fully recovered from the holiday rush and hopefully past the stress and strain of the first of the year and the various issues that impact our patients. APTA Virginia has been very busy working on several key things to start 2020 off in the right way. First of all, Lobby Day was held on January 22nd. The General Assembly building remains under construction, which poses a challenge for swiftly moving through the capitol as well as finding space for our PT constituents to meet with legislators. The major focus this year was on fair co-pay legislation and protecting consumer rights to quality care. At the time of this writing, our co-pay legislation is being heard in a senate committee. Please keep an eye or ear out as to how you may help improve access to PT and curb opioid usage by supporting this bill. We also generated talking points to prepare for a full-fledged effort at unfettered direct access for 2021. Direct access without limitations is paramount to becoming a truly autonomous profession. This will take a lot of volunteer effort and political action funds to find success, and thus your involvement has never been more important.

Your leadership has also been focused on our leadership workshop, which will happen at APTA headquarters this spring. Every committee and special interest group chair will meet in conjunction with our Board of Directors and Executive Committee to develop our future. Our hope is to continue to build on the strong three-year strategic plan created last year. Implementing this strategic plan has been critical in our success of creating financial stability for this organization and those for which it serves. I am very happy to witness our organization thriving and being able to plan a successful future. Thanks to all of you who have volunteered your time on behalf of your profession to make this happen. Your efforts are the lifeblood of APTA Virginia.

 All and only the best,

Josh
