Aquatic Therapy Fundamentals: Application to Clinical Practice by Dr. Jean Irion

This course will introduce the clinician to the application of the physical properties of water to justify the utilization of the aquatic environment as a recommended component of a patient’s plan of care. Specific aquatic techniques to address activity limitations and impairments in body structure and function will be taught that allow the participant to implement these learned skills and techniques. This course will include a laboratory component.

Cadaver Extremity Anatomy Review for Physical Therapy Clinicians by Dr. Steve Bitticker, Dr. John Graham, and Dr. Eric Coley

Practicing physical therapy clinicians are often removed in time from the opportunity for laboratory study of human gross anatomy. This eight-hour course will serve as a review of anatomy of the upper and lower limbs using cadaver prosections and will include both classroom and laboratory components. Review will cover normal human gross anatomy with emphasis on structure of the musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems in adults. One-hour lectures of each extremity region will be followed by one-half hour case presentations to facilitate consideration of differential diagnosis for both the upper limb and lower limb, then two-and-one-half hours of hands-on gross laboratory examination of human cadavers, respectively, will follow. Study of the following structures and features will be offered: bones, joints, muscles, tendons, joint capsules, ligaments, vessels and nerves. This course is designed to reinforce understanding of the neuromusculoskeletal systems of the human body for the practice of physical therapy. After completing this course, participants will have renewed understanding of how the structure of the human body links to clinical treatment of commonly encountered types of dysfunction.

Post-Concussion Syndrome: How to Effectively Assess and Manage by Dr. Steven Spinks

This 8-hour course will cover the history and evolution of symptoms associated following a concussion, assessment on the sidelines and in the clinic, and proper multidisciplinary management for both the athletic and non-athletic population.

We will cover the subjective evaluation, including the SINSS approach for ongoing assessment and outcomes measures, the evidence-backed objective examination for the top issues addressed in an outpatient setting following a concussion: dizziness/vertigo and postural instability; and finally, we will address proper management strategies for the clinical trajectories associated with concussions. This will be a blended course with didactic and laboratory components including assessment and management.
