We have exciting things going on this spring at the VCU Department of Physical Therapy! The students are busy in their push to the finish with the Marquette Challenge to support the Foundation for Physical Therapy. What you may not know is that the VCU students have raised over $200,000 for the Foundation. There are only 3 schools in the country that have raised more - University of Pittsburgh, Marquette University, and University of Miami. The students have placed either first or second in the Marquette Challenge for the past 3 years and are hoping to continue that success.
The final fundraiser of the year is the 13th Annual Golf Tournament at Hunting Hawk Golf Course on April 21, 2018 at noon! Golfers of any skill level are welcome to sign up individually or with a team up to 4 players to enjoy a round of 18 holes on a spring afternoon. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 3 teams, and individuals have the opportunity to win a free round of golf for longest drive and closest to the pin competitions on select holes. Additionally, there are opportunities to purchase cheats (no, this is not against the honor code), such as a “grenade” to throw your ball closer to the pin (or out of the woods). Golf tickets are $90 and include the round of golf, golf cart, lunch, and 2 drink tickets. For anyone who isn’t a golfer but would still like to support the event, lunch tickets may be purchased for $20. Please feel free to email Katie Greenberg (greenbergks@vcu.edu) or Hayden Smith (smithhj2@vcu.edu) for any questions, and sign up using the following link: https://guestli.st/491835. Thank you in advance for your support!
VCU Physical Therapy faculty and students enjoyed the last Saturday of Spring Break building ride in cars custom adapted for 9 children through the CHOR-VCU Go Baby Go program.
The other impressive initiative is the CARES Clinic at VCU. The DPT students started the CARES Clinic two years ago. It is a pro-bono PT clinic that is operated by students. They are having such a positive impact on our local community through this clinic. If you are a local clinician interested in serving as a PT mentor for the students, please contact Shawne Soper or Sheryl Finucane. They are always in need of licensed PTs to oversee their care in the clinic.
